Rangers winger Jamie Murphy ruled out for rest of season

A scan reveals that Jamie Murphy damaged his anterior cruciate ligament in Rangers' 3-1 win over Kilmarnock, ruling the winger out for the rest of the season.

Rangers manager Steven Gerrard has confirmed that winger Jamie Murphy is to miss the rest of the season with a knee injury.

The Scotland international caught his foot in the artificial turf during the Gers' 3-1 Scottish League Cup win over Kilmarnock at the weekend.

Murphy's worst fears have been realised, as a scan has revealed that the 28-year-old tore his anterior cruciate ligament at Rugby Park.

Speaking at Wednesday's pre-match press conference ahead of the Europa League tie with FC Ufa, Gerrard said: "Sad news for Jamie Murphy as he will be missing for the remainder of the season with an ACL injury.

"Jamie has been excellent for me since day one, we are trying to help him in every way we can to give him all the support he needs as he is a huge player for us.

"The important thing now is the player and his care and we will ensure he sees the experts and support him along his recovery."

Gerrard also confirmed that Rangers are hopeful of completing a deal for Hearts forward Kyle Lafferty, who is currently undergoing a medical.
