Ally McCoist: 'I fancied Lee McCulloch to score'

Ally McCoist admits that he fancied Lee McCulloch to score his stoppage-time penalty that helped Rangers beat East Fife.

Rangers manager Ally McCoist has said he was confident that Lee McCulloch would slot home his injury-time penalty that gave the Scottish League One leaders victory at East Fife.

McCulloch gave the Gers three points after David Templeton was fouled and McCoist, while admitting his side were below par, expected his spot kick to go in.

He told Rangers.co.uk: "I fancied him I've got to say. He's usually pretty confident and accurate with his penalties but obviously with it being an extremely late award there was a bit more added pressure on Lee.

"I haven't seen it again yet but it looked a stone wall penalty, it was great feet from Temps which invited the challenge and he got brought down.

"So we got away with one today and got the three points. I was a little bit concerned about our overall performance in the forward areas. We looked a little bit lifeless and that there was a lack of energy throughout most of the play."

Rangers can lift the Scottish League One crown if they win their next two games.
