Rangers extend winning streak to 11 games with win over St Mirren

Jason Holt scores the winning goal as Rangers defeat St Mirren 1-0 in the Scottish Championship.

Rangers have continued their 100% record in the Scottish Championship with a 1-0 win against St Mirren.

Stevie Mallan nearly gave Saints the lead inside the opening 60 seconds but Wes Foderingham dived to his right to turn his 30-yard strike onto the crossbar.

Lee Wallace nearly turned the ball into his own net in the 22nd minute, when his backpass curled round Foderingham and narrowly missed the goal.

Jason Holt broke the deadlock two minutes later when his shot across goal nestled into the bottom corner.

Rangers had the ball in the net again on the half-hour mark when Kenny Miller turned in a cross from Wallace, but the assistant referee's flag was up for offside.

Scott Agnew forced Foderingham into another save in the 53rd minute when his curling shot was tipped wide for a corner.

The midfielder then nearly hit the target from 30 yards, but the ball fizzed past the post.

Jamie Langfield came to St Mirren's rescue in the 76th minute to keep out Nicky Clark's shot from close range.

Substitute Lawrence Shankland's shot was beaten away by Foderingham with 10 minutes remaining, as St Mirren cranked up the pressure on the Rangers defence.

The Rangers defence held firm in the closing stages to sniff out any St Mirren attacks.
