Rangers reach playoff final despite Hibernian defeat

Rangers are two games away from returning to the Scottish Premiership after securing an aggregate victory over Hibernian in the playoff semi-final.

Rangers have advanced to the Scottish Premiership playoff final after securing a 2-1 aggregate victory despite losing at Hibernian this afternoon.

The home side had a penalty appeal turned down early on after the ball appeared to strike Dean Shiels's arm.

Rangers goalkeeper Cammy Bell was then called into action twice in quick succession, saving Fraser Fyvie's long-range strike before denying Jason Cummings.

Hibs continued to press as they looked to overhaul the two-goal deficit on aggregate, and Cummings came close once again, striking wide midway through the half.

Despite rarely threatening, Rangers almost opened the scoring when Haris Vuckic cut inside and unleashed a shot, which Mark Oxley did well to tip away.

After the break, Bell came to Rangers' rescue again, getting fingertips to Dominique Malonga's 25-yard strike.

Hibernian threw everything at the visitors, and finally broke the deadlock in injury time when Cummings found the top corner.

However, it was too late for Hibs, and Rangers will now face Motherwell over two legs, with the first leg at Ibrox on Thursday evening before the return fixture next Sunday.
