Rayo Vallecano see off Celta Vigo

Rayo Vallecano make a return to winning ways in La Liga with a 1-0 victory at home to Celta Vigo.

Rayo Vallecano have ended a run of three consecutive defeats in La Liga with a narrow 1-0 win at home to Celta Vigo.

The hosts made the breakthrough on 20 minutes when Alberto Bueno arrived in the box to head in Gael Kakuta's cross from the right wing.

Celta then came close to equalising with 10 minutes left in the first half as Michael Krohn-Dehli hit the post with a fierce effort, while Rayo goalkeeper Cristian Alvarez denied Augusto Fernandez soon after.

The away team struck the woodwork again at the start of the second half when Gustavo Cabral's header came back off the post, before a rare opening for Rayo saw Kakuta have a goal ruled out for offside.

Celta cranked up the pressure during the final stages as Pablo Hernandez shot wide, after Fabian Orellana had smashed an effort over the crossbar, but Vallecano were able to hold on for the victory.
