Steve Clarke: 'Reading must maintain momentum'

Steve Clarke says that he wants Reading to 'pick up from where they left off' in the Championship, having won five of their last six games before the two-week break.

Steve Clarke has insisted that he is confident Reading can pick up from where they left off before the two-week Championship hiatus.

The Royals play host to Charlton Athletic this weekend on the back of an impressive run of form, which has seen them win five of their last six league matches.

Despite the momentum being halted somewhat during the international break, Clarke believes that his side have more than enough to keep their playoff push on track with three more points on Saturday afternoon.

However, the 52-year-old is wary of the threat that the Addicks provide, having battled back from two goals down to rescue a 2-2 draw in their last outing.

"We want to try to pick up where we left off - there's no reason why we can't," he told the club's official website. "But you always have to bear in mind that the opposition always have a say in the matter. There are no easy games in the Championship.

"Every game you go into, you see potential problems and potential difficulties, and this weekend is no exception. Charlton are a good team - I watched them just before the international break, when they were at home to Fulham. They did ever so well to come back from two-nil down to get a point in the game, and they'll take a feel-good factor from that.

"Last year against Reading they took six points, so it's a game that we have to be very mindful of, and treat it with the proper respect and make sure that we get back to winning ways as soon as possible."

Reading sit two points outside the automatic promotion zone, but just one point clear of Derby County in seventh place.
