Reading are reportedly ready to offer Jason Roberts a new contract in order to end speculation linking him with a lucrative move to the Middle East.

Reading are reportedly ready to offer Jason Roberts a new two-year deal to stay at the Madejski Stadium.

The 34-year-old forward scored six goals in 17 appearances for the Royals last season after joining from Blackburn Rovers in January.

Roberts, who has 12 months remaining on his current deal, is said to have attracted attention from clubs in the USA and the Middle East.

Reading manager Brian McDermott does not want his talisman to be distracted by speculation next season and has urged the club to open contract talks with Roberts, according to The Mirror.

Roberts's last Premier League goal came in Blackburn's final-day 3-2 win over Wolverhampton Wanderers in 2011.
