Real Madrid's Karim Benzema out with hamstring injury

A scan reveals that Karim Benzema suffered damage to his hamstring during Real Madrid's 1-0 defeat at the hands of rivals Atletico Madrid.

Real Madrid have confirmed that striker Karim Benzema will spend some time on the sidelines with a hamstring problem.

The France international sustained the injury during the first half of Saturday's 1-0 loss at home to local rivals Atletico Madrid.

Benzema underwent a scan this morning, which revealed that he had suffered "a muscle injury to his right biceps femoris".

Los Blancos have not revealed the anticipated length of the 28-year-old's absence, although this type of complaint ordinarily takes three weeks to recover from.

Benzema has scored 23 goals from his 25 outings in all competitions this season.
