Emilio Butragueno coy on Ancelotti future

Emilio Butragueno refuses to give Carlo Ancelotti his backing to remain as Real Madrid manager.

Real Madrid sporting director Emilio Butragueno has hinted that Carlo Ancelotti's tenure as manager could be coming to an end.

Los Blancos beat Espanyol 4-1 on Sunday, but missed out on the La Liga title after Barcelona's victory away to Atletico Madrid.

Speaking after Real's win in Catalunya, Butragueno wouldn't be drawn on the Italian's position as head coach.

"I congratulate Barcelona, who had a great second round [of the season]," he is quoted by Football Espana as saying. "We complied and achieved the result that we needed.

"We always try to compete with the intention of winning, and we're not happy when we don't. This week we deserved to beat Valencia and Juventus, but we didn't have any luck. We made a great effort, but we couldn't find the goals.

"[On Ancelotti's future] it's not the right time to say anything now. We have one game left, from there we'll see."

Real were knocked out of the Champions League on Wednesday after former Los Merengues forward Alvaro Morata guided Juve into the final.
