Lionel Messi, Cristiano Ronaldo and Xavi have been shortlisted for the FIFA Ballon d'Or 2011.

Barcelona duo Lionel Messi and Xavi have been shortlisted for this year's FIFA Ballon d'Or, while Real Madrid star Cristiano Ronaldo has completed the nominations for 2011's prestigious award.

The La Liga giants were announced as the contendors for the accolade via the world governing body and France Football magazine.

Barca frontman Messi has the current Ballon d'Or title, with Xavi being gifted an opportunity to overcome his third placed position last year.

Former Manchester United winger Ronaldo, who won the coveted title in 2008, has replaced Andres Iniesta in the shortlist for this year following a prolific term for Jose Mourinho's side.
