Real Madrid president Florentino Perez has denied reports that goalkeeper Iker Casillas was forced out of the club.
The 34-year-old has brought an end to his career at the La Liga giants by joining Portuguese outfit Porto.
It has been suggested that Casillas was put under pressure to depart the club this summer, but Perez has said that it was the Spain captain's own decision to leave.
"No-one in Real Madrid asked him to leave the club," BBC Sport quotes Perez as saying.
"A few days ago he received an offer from Porto which he told us of immediately and asked us to take it into consideration and make an agreement."
Casillas made 725 appearances for Madrid and helped the club to win 17 major honours.
