Spanish champions Real Madrid set a club clean sheet record in Tuesday night's 5-0 success over Alaves in La Liga.

Real Madrid set a club clean sheet record on Tuesday evening, as the capital giants continued their excellent form with a 5-0 success over Alaves in Spain's top flight.

Los Blancos were confirmed as La Liga champions earlier this month and have also since booked their spot in the Champions League final against German giants Borussia Dortmund.

Real Madrid beat Granada 4-0 in the league on Saturday, before thumping Alaves 5-0 on Tuesday, with Vinicius Junior registering a brace, while Jude Bellingham, Federico Valverde and Arda Guler were also on the scoresheet.

Carlo Ancelotti's side have now posted 20 clean sheets in 36 La Liga matches, which is their most in a single season in the tournament's history, beating 19 from 1986-87, 1987-88 and 2019-20.

Los Blancos have only conceded 22 times in the league this season, with their defensive record even more impressive considering that their two starting centre-backs Eder Militao and David Alaba have been out for long periods through injury, in addition to number one goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois.

Real Madrid have also equalled their longest unbeaten run in La Liga history, which now stands at 30, with that number also achieved between May 1988 and April 1989.

The capital giants will now be aiming to set another record when they take on Villarreal in the league on Sunday, before finishing their domestic campaign against Real Betis on May 25.

"I am convinced that we will reach full capacity on June 1. These games are important to maintain the rhythm, good dynamics, motivation and good play," Ancelotti told reporters in his post-match press conference, with Real Madrid working towards the Champions League final.

"Two weeks left. Now we will rest for a few days and next week we will put a physical load on it. In the second week, we will do the tactical work."

Ancelotti was also quizzed on his goalkeeping situation ahead of the clash against Dortmund, with Courtois now back to fitness after two knee operations.

Ancelotti coy on goalkeeping situation for CL final

The Belgium international has played Real Madrid's last three La Liga matches, but Andriy Lunin was given the nod against Bayern Munich for the second leg of their Champions League semi-final.

Courtois is being tipped to reclaim the gloves for the final of the European Cup, but Ancelotti refused to offer any indication of his thought process for the clash with BVB.

"The situation is clear. We have made the decision. In the two remaining games, one will be played by Andriy and the other by Thibaut," said the manager.

"[Courtois] is progressing very well. We are convinced that on day one we will arrive in good shape. It is important to rest this week and prepare for the final the next two. We are not worried. Until June 1 it is a secondary issue. We are thinking about winning the Champions League."

Alaba is Real Madrid's only confirmed absentee for the final of the Champions League, but Aurelien Tchouameni is also a major doubt due to the foot injury that he picked up against Bayern last week.
