Mario Suarez: 'Atletico Madrid not favourites'

Atletico Madrid midfielder Mario Suarez refuses to accept that his side are the favourites to win the La Liga title this season, despite their strong position.

Atletico Madrid midfielder Mario Suarez has refused to accept that his side are the favourites to win the La Liga title this season.

Sunday's 2-0 win over Getafe has left Atletico top of La Liga, three points clear of second-place Real Madrid and four clear of third-place Barcelona with just five games remaining.

However, Suarez has called for calm and insisted that the race is "not over".

"Atletico have a great history but the favourites for now are the budgets of Madrid and Barcelona," Suarez told AS. "With our weapons, together, we can do good things. But it's not over."

Atletico host Elche in the league on Friday evening.
