Pepe and Dani Carvajal have been brought into the defence, with Raphael Varane and the injured Danilo dropping out.

In midfield, Casemiro and Isco have been handed a starting role in place of Toni Kroos and James Rodriguez.

Hosts Espanyol have made two alterations, with Salva Sevilla and Michael Ciani being introduced to the team.

Francisco Montanes and Antonio Raillo have to be content with a place on the substitutes' bench for the visit of the 32-time La Liga champions.
