Iker Casillas hints at Spain, Real Madrid returns

Porto goalkeeper Iker Casillas says that he 'would be delighted' to return to the Spain fold, and also opens the door on a spectacular reunion with Real Madrid.

Porto goalkeeper Iker Casillas has said that he 'would be delighted' to return to the Spain fold, and has also opened the door on a spectacular reunion with Real Madrid.

Casillas made over 700 appearances for Madrid between 1999 and 2015 before joining Porto, playing over 100 times for the Portuguese giants.

The 37-year-old has not represented Spain since 2016, but David de Gea's recent struggles have led to suggestions that the stopper could come out of international retirement.

Casillas has revealed that he would be open to representing Spain once again, and also hinted at a potential return to Madrid, who signed Thibaut Courtois as their new number one during the recent transfer window.

"I think I did the right thing," Casillas told Movistar+. "I think had I continued at Real Madrid, my time there would've ended worse than it did. If Spain call me up, would I go back? I'd be delighted to. If Madrid called me? Of course, I can't forget where I grew up."

Casillas won five La Liga titles and three Champions League crowns during his time at the Bernabeu, while he was a part of the Spain team that landed two European Championships and one World Cup between 2008 and 2012.
