Real Madrid are reportedly on the verge of signing highly-rated defender Lamini Fati from Leganes in a £83,000 transfer.

Real Madrid reportedly are close to signing 18-year-old Leganes defender Lamini Fati.

Carlo Ancelotti's side appear keen to recruit a new centre-back, having been left light on options due to Eder Militao and David Alaba's injuries.

As a result, Real Madrid have been linked with a number of potential targets, including Borussia Dortmund defender Nico Schlotterbeck.

While Real Madrid appear to be looking at immediate solutions to their defensive issues, they are also planning for the long-term future after identifying Fati as a transfer target.

Real Madrid close in on Lamini Fati transfer

According to journalist Fabrizio Romano, Real Madrid are on the verge of bringing the 18-year-old into their youth setup.

Los Blancos are close to finalising a deal with Leganes, having already agreed personal terms with the highly-rated prospect.

The update claims that the European champions will pay Leganes a €100,000 (£83,000) fee for the defender to move across the Spanish capital.

Although he is regarded as one for the future, Real Madrid view Fati as someone who has the potential to grow into a first-team player.

Who is Lamini Fati?

Fati was linked with a move to Valencia in the summer, but he ultimately stayed put in the South of Madrid with Leganes.

As per Relevo, the teenager caught Real Madrid's eye with his performance in a friendly between Leganes B and Real Madrid Castilla (B team) in the summer.

According to AS, Fati is a left-footed defender "an imposing physique who is comfortable on the ball", which he has showcased with his performances for Leganes B in Spain's fifth tier.

Fati is expected to initially link up with Real Madrid's C team or the Under-19 squad, but he could also be an option for Castilla head coach Raul.

The Castilla side have been hit by defensive injuries and Raul Asencio's call-up to the first-team, potentially leaving room for Fati to prove himself in the B team.
