Real Salt Lake held to goalless draw by Dallas

Real Salt Lake lose ground at the top of the MLS Western Conference to the Seattle Sounders as they are held to a goalless draw at home to Dallas.

Real Salt Lake lost ground on the Seattle Sounders at the top of the MLS Western Conference as they were held to a 0-0 draw by Dallas.

The home side could have taken the lead in the eighth minute when Chris Seitz spilled Javier Morales's free kick onto the path of Cole Grossman, but Matt Hedges was on hand to clear the midfielder's effort off the line.

Morales was causing problems for the visitors and he threatened when he cut in from the left and fired a low shot at goal which went just wide of the post.

After the break, the visitors should have taken the lead when Tesho Akindele got in behind the Real defence, but Jeff Attinella made a good save to keep out the midfielder's goalbound effort.

Dallas continued to pose a threat to the home side and Blas Perez forced a save from Attinella as he latched onto Zach Lloyd's cross, but the keeper held the ball with ease.

Nat Borchers tried to win the game late on for Salt Lake as he drilled an effort at goal from 35 yards, but his shot went just wide of the post.

The home side pushed for a late winner and Olmes Garcia had the chance to hand his side the three points when the ball fell to him in the box, but he lost his composure and fired over.
