Real Sociedad and Malaga met in the first La Liga clash of the day at the Anoeta Stadium.

The home side were looking to rebound from their defeat in midweek in the Champions League to Shakhtar Donetsk.

Bernd Schuster's side were hopeful of continuing of their good form from their 5-0 victory over Rayo Vallecano.

However, the game ended goalless as both teams failed to carve out any clear-cut opportunities on goal in a game short of quality.

Check out how the game unfolded in our commentary below.

Thanks for join our commentary today. The action has just got underway in the next La Liga game tonight between Almeria and Levante, so feel free to jump over to there. Until next time, goodbye.

Malaga will be pleased with their point and if they could have been more clinical in front of goal in the first half they may have secured all three points, but they've got a clean sheet and a point from a tricky away clash, which will delight Bernd Schuster.

Sociedad have back-to-back goalless draws and weren't at all in the first half but improved slightly in the second. Defensively they were sound, which will please Arrasate after their Champions League defeat in midweek. But there is still plenty to do for the home side if they're to match last season's performance in La Liga.

That was the scoreline the game deserved. Neither team did enough to win the game as both struggled to carve out clear cut opportunities, it was far from a classic.

FULL TIME: Real Sociedad 0-0 Malaga

Morales does well to beat his man down the left and he opts to go on his own and cross the ball into the area but his effort is claimed by Bravo.

There will be three minutes of added time.

Martinez raids down the right and digs out a cross to the near post where he finds Seferovic who heads an effort over the bar. It has been one of those days.

Both side's are trying to push for the winner but the quality just hasn't been there today. As a through ball aimed for Seferovic by Vela goes straight through to Caballero.

The home side's turn to attack as Martinez tries to find the run of Griezmann and he lifts a cross into the area, which the attacker heads at goal but it goes just wide. Again, the flag is raised but it's the incorrect decision.

CHANCE! From the resulting corner Darder rises highest in the penalty area but he can only head his effort over the bar.

CHANCE! Santa Cruz finds space on the edge of the area as he is played in by Darder, he takes aim with his right foot and fires shot to near post, which is turned behind by Bravo.

Griezmann gets in behind for the hosts and he tries to pull the ball back to Vela in the middle but Eliseu is there to put the ball behind for the hosts, just getting in front of the striker in time.

CHANCE! Gamez raids forward and finds the run the Santa Cruz with a lofted cross, the striker heads the ball at goal but his effort goes just over the bar. That was close!

Now it's the home side's turn to struggle to get anything going forward as they just can't hold the ball up front as the Malaga centre-backs are winning all of the 50/50 tussles.

MISS! Sanchez hits a long ball forward which evades the head of Mikel and Duda is in on goal but he goes for a first time volley and misses the ball completely.

A first real foray into the Sociedad half ends disappointingly as Morales and Duda combine down the left but the latter lifts a cross well over the bar, with no-one in the area to challenge for the ball anyway. Strange decision.

Malaga haven't been in the half at all as an attacking entity but are defending stoutly and are not giving the home side any room in the final third of the pitch.

Malaga haven't been in the half at all as an attacking entity but are defending stoutly and are not giving the home side any room in the final third of the pitch.

Prieto drifts over to the left and turns his man inside and out before lifting a cross to the back post, where he finds Vela, who heads at goal but Cabellero makes an excellent save. It wouldn't have mattered anyway as the Mexican was flagged offside, incorrectly though.

CHANCE! Angel strikes the free kick from 20 yards out and the ball goes just over the bar with Cabellero scrambling to keep it out.

Sociedad win a free kick on the just outside the box as Vela is brought down, can they threaten with this?

Sociedad have definitely upped the ante in the second half as they're seeing a lot more of the ball in the final third of the pitch, but they need to produce better quality with it.

CHANCE! The home side come to close to taking the lead as Vela heads a long ball into the path of Agirretxe he takes a touch inside the box and volleys low with his left-foot but his effort goes wide of the target.

Better play from Sociedad as the play the ball out to the left in a quick flowing move. Angel takes a touch and crosses but the delivery is poor and Tissone heads clear with four Sociedad players waiting in the box.

The home side win a free kick down the right early in the half and Vela collects the ball just outside the area, he plays it to Martinez down the wing, but he blasts his cross over everyone in the box.

We're back underway in this La Liga clash.

The players are back out on the pitch and we should be back underway shortly.

The home side have had decent spells of possession but have failed to carve out any clear cut openings with the Malaga defence looking solid for the opening 45 minutes. Something will have to change after the break for Arrasate's side.

So it's all square at the break in this La Liga clash. It has been a game of few chances with the visitors coming closest with a dangerous spell midway through the half but they couldn't beat Bravo.

HALF TIME: Real Sociedad 0-0 Malaga

Malaga seem quite happy with their first-half effort and look to be playing out the half with some solid passing play at the back, decent half for the visitors so far.

Sociedad have lost their rhythm going forward, there's nothing there for them at the minute as Vela twists and turns and plays the ball to Martinez, who picks out the run of Pardo, he tries to feed a through ball for Vela, but his pass goes straight through to Caballero.

The home side try to break quickly down the left and Pardo fires a ball across field to Vela, who tries to bring the ball down but Sanchez is there to take the ball from him and clear the danger much to the frustration of the striker.

Tissone finds Gamez down the right again and he raids forward down the right but can't dig out a decent cross with teammates arriving in the penalty area. Story of the half so far!

The visitors have come into the game in the last five minutes and are beginning to dominate, now it's the turn of Sociedad to defend for their lives.

CHANCE! From the resulting corner, Sanchez rises up highest in the penalty area and heads an effort at goal, with no-one on the line the header looks destined for the net but it goes just the wrong side of the post.

CHANCE! El Hamdaoui finds space inside the box, he turns onto his right foot and fires a curling effort at goal but Bravo does well to leap and tip his effort over the bar.

A long ball forward from the visitors is pursued by El Hamadaoui, he looks just about to bring it down on the volley inside the penalty area before Mikel gets back just in time to knock the ball away from him with his head.

Martinez's turn to get forward down the right and he links up with Prieto who takes the ball on and fires a cross in at the near post where Sanchez, gets a foot to it and allows Cabellero to gather. Good defending!

The home side play the ball nicely down the left a Bergara finds Angel in an advanced position, he looks to cross but he can't beat the first man and Malaga clear the danger.

Sociedad think they have scored as the ball ends up in the back of the net but the referee is quick to point out at foul in the build up as Agirretxe slotted the ball home.

Malaga come into the game with some possession football, they work the ball down the right and the ball comes to Gamez, who whips in a low cross, which is easily dealt with by the Sociedad defence.

Angel has a pot shot at goal raiding forward from left back, he takes the ball in stride from Bergara in midfielder and strikes with his right-foot but the ball goes comfortably wide of the post.

Martinez gets down to the bye-line and this time the home side do get their cross in and Vela does well to win the ball at the back post but Angeleri comes across and hustles the Mexican out of the ball.

Prieto is seeing a lot of the ball early on and he links up well with Martinez down the right, as they play a quick one-two but the ball goes out of play before the midfielder can whip in a cross.

The home side win a free kick on the left and Pardo whips the ball to the back post where he finds the run of Mikel at the back post, who takes a touch and fires across goal but his effort sails over the bar.

Prieto finds space going forward down the right for the home side and he tries to slip in a through ball for Vela down the middle but Angeleri sniffs out the dangers and makes the interception.

A possession game for Sociedad as they attempt to play the ball out from the back but straight away they're under pressure from the Malaga midfield pressing forward. Lively start!

Gentle start to the game as both sides raid forward early on both down their left flanks, but deliveries from Angle and Antunes fall into the hands of the opposition keepers.

We're underway in this La Liga clash.

The players are making their way out onto the field and we should be underway shortly.

Socieded have made three changes to their team from their midweek defeat. In come Agirretxe, Angel, Castro for Griezmann, Seferovic and De la Bella. While Malaga have made one change as Duda comes in for Morales.

MALAGA Subs: Kameni, Camacho, Santa Cruz, Anderson, Morales, Pawlowski, Chen.

MALAGA XI: Willy, Gamez, Antunes, Hamdaoui, Portillo, Tissone, Angeleri, Duda, Eliseu, Sanchez, Sergi Darder.

REAL SOCIEDAD Subs: Zubikarai, Griezmann, Seferovic, Ansotegi, Zurutuza, Cadamuro, Ros.

REAL SOCIEDAD XI: Bravo, Martínez, Mikel, Bergara, Inigo, Agirretxe, Xabi Prieto, Vela, Pardo, Castro, Angel.

The teams are in and we'll start with the home side.

The current table situation for both sides is as follows. Sociedad are currently seventh after four games on five points while today's visitors are 10th in the table having taken a point less from their fixtures.

Malaga come into this game in good form following their 5-0 hammering of Rayo Vallecano as Mounir El Hamdaoui netted a hat-trick at the Estadio La Rosaleda.

The home side haven't won in the league since the opening day of the season and drew last time out away at Levante. So there's work for Jagoba Arrasate's side to do this afternoon.

Sociedad have enjoyed a decent start to the season in La Liga but fell to a 2-0 defeat in midweek in their Champions League opener against Shakhtar Donetsk.

Good afternoon and welcome to Sports Mole's coverage of the La Liga clash between Real Sociedad and Malaga.
