Robbie Keane would settle for a point against Spain

Robbie Keane says that the Republic of Ireland will enter Thursday's clash against Spain with a winning mentality, despite a tough start to their Euro 2012 campaign.

Republic of Ireland captain Robbie Keane has insisted that his national side will be determined to grab maximum points against Spain but has claimed that they would accept a point from the clash.

Giovanni Trapattoni's side go up against the reigning European and world champions on Thursday, with a defeat resulting in Ireland's exit from the tournament.

"We believe we can go into every game and win," said Keane. "Listen, we know it's going to be a tough task. They are one of the best teams in the world, but there's no reason why we can't play against them and get something out of the game.

"We go into every game hoping to get three points, so that would be our main aim. It's very difficult as a player to go into a game thinking that you just want to get a point.

"It's very hard to do that as a player and we will certainly go in hoping to get three points. But it wouldn't be the end of the world if we did get a point."

Ireland are at the bottom of Group C following their opening 3-1 defeat to Croatia on Sunday.
