Giovanni Trapattoni claims that he is even hungrier to achieve success with the Republic of Ireland following his side's disappointing Euro 2012 campaign.

Republic of Ireland manager Giovanni Trapattoni has claimed that his side's disappointing Euro 2012 campaign has made him even hungrier to achieve success with the nation.

A 2-0 defeat to Italy in Poznan last night resulted in Ireland finishing bottom of Group C, without a single point from their three matches.

Trapattoni, who is contracted in his role until 2014, admits that he is disappointed with how the tournament has gone but says that he is raring to begin World Cup qualifying.

"In my life, I have had many successes and been the manager of great teams," said the 73-year-old. "I have always had the habit of winning and not losing and when I lose, I don't sleep at night. I think about if I have made mistakes.

"After the Croatia and Spain games, I would like to have immediately played the game again, but I think we played a good game against Italy tonight.

"The willingness is there to come back with fresh energy and a new squad to do better, and I can't wait for the new season to start."

Prior to this summer's championships, Ireland were unbeaten in 14 matches.
