Kevin Doyle suffers deep cut to leg in Republic of Ireland win over Switzerland

Republic of Ireland manager Martin O'Neill says that Kevin Doyle should be fit for Euro 2016 after easing fears that he had broken his leg against Switzerland.

Republic of Ireland manager Martin O'Neill has suggested that striker Kevin Doyle has avoided any break or ligament damage to his leg after being stretchered off against Switzerland.

Midway through the first half, Doyle sustained a serious-looking injury and was soon replaced by O'Neill, but the severity of the injury seems to be limited to a deep cut to his shin.

Doyle shared the X-rated photo on social media, but while the injury could keep him out for several weeks, O'Neill expects to have the forward available for Euro 2016 should he earn selection.

O'Neill told reporters: "My doctor told me that it is a deep cut, they are cleaning it up, but nothing is broken, which is great from that view point.

"He has gone under anaesthetic to get it stitched up and hopefully everything should be alright. Hopefully it doesn't get infected."

Republic of Ireland won the match by a 1-0 scoreline thanks to an early goal from Ciaran Clark.
