West Ham United youngster Declan Rice insists that he is 'focused' on representing Republic of Ireland, amid suggestions that he could yet switch allegiance to England.

Declan Rice has reiterated that he is happy with his decision to represent Republic of Ireland over country of birth England.

The 19-year-old has featured three times for Ireland's senior side, having also represented the Boys in Green at age-grade level.

Rice has yet to appear for his nation in a international competition, though, and West Ham United co-chairman David Gold recently suggested that he sees the versatile defensive player in an England shirt.

Questioned about his future after Ireland's 2-1 win against the United States on Saturday evening, however, Rice played down talk of a switch in allegiance.

"It's one of those things, [Gold's] just come out and said it. I'm not going to take too much from it," he told reporters. "I'm here and I'm playing for Ireland.

"It's a question that keeps being asked. I'm just focusing on playing at the moment and enjoying my football - that's the main thing. There are two games coming up in September and we're looking forward to them."

Rice was used 26 times by West Ham in the Premier League last season, while also making five appearances in cup competitions.
