Shay Given: 'Martin O'Neill will teach Roy Keane how to deal with players'

Shay Given believes that Roy Keane can learn from Martin O'Neill during their management partnership with the Republic of Ireland national team.

Aston Villa goalkeeper Shay Given believes that Roy Keane will learn from Martin O'Neill during their management stint with the Republic of Ireland national team.

The former Villa boss was confirmed as Ireland's new manager on a two-year deal yesterday, with Keane as his assistant.

"Roy can learn off Martin, who is a fantastic manager," Given told talkSPORT. "Some people can be frightened of Roy and the way he speaks and looks at players and they go into their shelf, but Martin will help him to encourage players.

"That's one of Martin's strongest points. Players are perhaps more sensitive than in the older days and that's where Roy can learn from Martin."

Keane has had failed managerial stints at Sunderland and Ipswich Town.
