Australia and Japan played out a 1-1 draw in their 2014 World Cup qualifier in Brisbane earlier today.
Following a goalless opening half, Australia substitute Mark Milligan was handed his marching orders in the 56th minute for a second bookable offence.
Visiting Japan went on to capitalise on their numerical advantage nine minutes later when Keisuke Honda crossed for Yuzo Kurihara, who made no mistake at the back post.
However, the Socceroos responded five minutes later with an equalising goal. Japan defender Atsuto Uchida was ruled to have grabbed Alex Brosque inside the area and former Middlesbrough midfielder Luke Wilkshire stepped up to convert the resultant penalty.
Prospective Manchester United signing Shinji Kagawa went close to claiming all three points for Japan in the closing stages, but Mark Schwarzer got down to hold the midfielder's effort.
Deep into stoppage time Kurihara was given a second caution as the match ended with 10 players on either side.
