Roma have revealed that midfielder Alessandro Florenzi ruptured his anterior cruciate ligament during Wednesday night's 3-1 win over Sassuolo.
The Italian international was forced off in the latter stages of the Serie A clash and a statement from Roma has confirmed that Florenzi is heading for a long period on the sidelines.
"Alessandro Florenzi underwent diagnostic tests during the night which revealed he has ruptured the anterior cruciate ligament in his left knee," read the statement. "The 25-year-old sustained the injury during the second half of Roma's win at Sassuolo on Wednesday evening.
Florenzi, who underwent surgery on Thursday afternoon, is now facing at least six months on the sidelines, placing a return this season in severe doubt.
