Team News: Marco Borriello returns for Roma, Erik Lamela left out

Roma boss Rudi Garcia surprisingly decides to start with Marco Borriello in his first game in charge at Livorno, while Erik Lamela is left on the bench.

Roma manager Rudi Garcia has handed Marco Borriello his first start for the Giallorossi for nearly two years at Livorno tonight.

Garcia has recalled the forward to partner Francesco Totti and Alessandro Florenzi in his first match in charge of the Rome giants, while Mehdi Benatia also gets a debut at centre-back.

Summer signing Morgan de Sanctis makes his bow in goal for the visitors, but Gervinho must wait for a Serie A debut after being named as a substitute.

Argentine winger Erik Lamela has been left on the bench by Garcia amid reported interest from Tottenham Hotspur, while former Manchester City full-back Maicon starts on his return to Italy.

Livorno have Paulinho leading the attack after starring in Serie B last season, while Emerson will take charge of the defence in a 3-5-2 formation.

Livorno: Bardi, Valentini, Emerson, Bernardini, Schiattarella, Luci, Greco, Gemiti, Belingheri, Paulinho, Dionisi

Roma: De Sanctis, Maicon, Benatia, Castan, Balzaretti, Bradley, De Rossi, Pjanic, Florenzi, Borriello, Totti
