According to Corriere dello Sport, Rodwell has emerged as a surprise candidate to move to Stadio Olimpico in the coming days.
The former Everton and Sunderland man is without a club, having last played for Blackburn Rovers in the Championship last season.
However, the report suggests that Iceland international Emil Hallfredsson, who has previously played in Serie A, is 'the most ready' to represent Roma in the near future.
The Giallorossi currently sit in sixth position in Italy's top flight.
