Lee Frecklington takes Rotherham United captaincy from Greg Halford

Struggling Rotherham United decide to change their club captain, replacing Greg Halford with Lee Frecklington.

Rotherham United manager Steve Evans has announced that Lee Frecklington has taken the club captaincy from Greg Halford.

Halford started the season as captain, but with Rotherham bottom of the Championship with one point out of a possible 15, Evans has decided to make a change.

The Millers boss also admitted that he gave the armband to the wrong man at the start of the season.

He told the club website: "I have had many conversations with Greg Halford about the captaincy, and I felt that if we freed him from the extra burden of responsibility then he would have more time to work on his individual game, which would in turn benefit all parties.

"Greg has accepted the decision like a professional, and knows that his experience is still a valued asset to this squad.

"I have now in turn offered the club captaincy to Lee Frecklington. Lee was first and foremost very humbled to have been asked to lead the team, and didn't have to think twice before accepting."

Rotherham return to action after the current international break with a trip to Charlton Athletic on Saturday, September 12.
