CSKA Moscow coach Leonid Slutsky has been appointed as head coach of Russia, succeeding Fabio Capello in the role.
Capello, who previously managed England, was sacked from his position as Russia head coach in July.
"We have said many times that at this stage, a Russian coach should take over the national team," Russian Sports Minister Vitaly Mutko said in a statement.
"Given Leonid Slutsky's successful and effective work at CSKA, I think he is exactly the one who is capable of the task of getting into Euro 2016."
Russia, who play Sweden in their next qualifying match for Euro 2016 on September 5, are currently third in Group G with eight points from six matches.
