Barry Bannan banished from Scotland squad

Barry Bannan drops out of the Scotland squad for a friendly match with Cyprus following his arrest last week.

Scotland manager Craig Levein has decided to leave Barry Bannan out of his squad to face Cyprus later this month.

The Aston Villa midfielder was arrested last week on suspicion of drink driving and failing to stop following a car crash on the M1 in Nottinghamshire.

However, Levein has suggested that the 21-year-old's exile from the national side will not be permanent.

"There are certain situations where it's better just to let it resolve itself," Levein told a press conference. "Barry will be back in the group after that."

As expected, Huddersfield Town striker Jordan Rhodes has been named in the squad for the first time, while Norwich City's Russell Martin and Queens Park Rangers striker Jamie Mackie have been recalled.

Steven Naismith will play no part after Glasgow Rangers announced that he has damaged his anterior cruciate ligament.

Scotland squad:

Goalkeepers: Allan McGregor, David Marshall, Matt Gilks

Defenders: Phil Bardsley, Christophe Berra, Gary Caldwell, Grant Hanley, Alan Hutton, Russell Martin, Lee Wallace, Steven Whittaker

Midfielders: Charlie Adam, Don Cowie, Graham Dorrans, Darren Fletcher, James McArthur, James Morrison, Barry Robson), Robert Snodgrass

Strikers: David Goodwillie, Craig Mackail-Smith, Jamie Mackie, Kenny Miller, Jordan Rhodes
