Sevilla ease to win over Elche on final day

Sevilla end their La Liga campaign on a high with a 3-1 win over Elche in the final match of the league season.

Sevilla have ended their La Liga campaign with a victory courtesy of a 3-1 win over Elche in the final match of the league season this evening.

The hosts took the lead in the 16th minute as a corner was flicked on towards the back post, where Coke turned it into the middle for Vicente Iborra to sweep home from close range.

Elche threatened to level things up again with 10 minutes remaining of the first half, but Javi Flores couldn't beat Javi Varas after taking the ball down inside the box.

Sevilla had a good chance to double their advantage just three minutes after the restart when a rebound fell to Jairo Samperio, only for the Spaniard to blaze his effort over the top.

He made no such mistake shortly after the hour mark, however, slotting the ball into the bottom corner having turned his marker in the area.

The hosts almost extended their lead even further with 20 minutes of the match remaining as Carlos Fernandez nodded an effort towards the bottom corner, but Manu Herrera pulled off a fine save to deny the Sevilla man.

It was 3-0 just two minutes later, however, as Jose Antonio Reyes chipped a delightful through-ball to Iborra, who calmly slid it past the keeper.

The visitors did have something to shout about deep into second-half stoppage time as Richmond Boakye pulled a goal back to register the final strike of the Primera Division season with virtually the last action of the match.
