Cardiff City defender Simon Lappin has agreed to join Sheffield United on a season-long loan deal.
United manager David Weir revealed yesterday that he wanted to sign the player but was unsure whether it would be done in time for Friday's clash against Crawley Town.
However, the player could now go straight into the squad for the match after the deal was wrapped up earlier than Weir had expected.
"He's been successful in this league and he's a leader," Weir told BBC Sport. "He adds to our depth in a number of positions."
Lappin joined Cardiff in the summer from Norwich City.
