Preview: Sheffield Wednesday vs. Blackburn Rovers

Sports Mole looks ahead to Wednesday's Championship clash between Sheffield Wednesday and Blackburn Rovers.

Blackburn Rovers manager Gary Bowyer has some tough selection decisions to make when his side meet Sheffield Wednesday at Hillsborough on Wednesday night.

Rovers head into the game one point and one place behind Wednesday, who currently sit in 10th spot, but an FA Cup quarter-final with Liverpool on Sunday is likely to have an impact on what side Bowyer names in Yorkshire.

Neither Blackburn or Wednesday look under threat from relegation, but with the playoff spots looking a step too far at this stage of the season, Bowyer could gamble in an attempt to secure a trip to Wembley for the club's supporters.

An impressive defensive display earned Rovers a point in a goalless draw with promotion hopefuls Bournemouth on Saturday afternoon, but collecting six points from a possible 18 in February has effectively ended their hopes of securing a return to the Premier League.

A rejuvenated Wednesday side made it back-to-back wins by beating Middlesbrough 2-0 on the weekend, but they remain 14 points outside the top six and a promotion bid is likely to be delayed until next season.

It was the Owls' first home win since Boxing Day, and the hosts will be hopeful of a repeat performance as they look to move another step closer to securing a top-half finish.

Stuart Gray is likely to name an unchanged side as he aims for a third successive win, while Bowyer must decide whether to play Rudy Gestede and Jordan Rhodes together in attack ahead of their trip to Anfield.
