Half-Time Report: Southampton level with West Ham United

Southampton and West Ham United have chances to score, but reach half time level at St Mary's.

Southampton and West Ham United are level in their Premier League clash after a first half where both sides had chances to edge in front.

After a quiet opening to the game, the Saints almost forged an early lead as Sadio Mane burst threateningly into the box before his cross was turned away by a retreating Carl Jenkinson.

The Hammers then broke out of defence and, after the hosts failed to clear their lines, Morgan Amalfitano unleashed a low drive that was blocked by the head of Steven Davis.

Within moments, Southampton almost found a breakthrough as Clarets keeper Adrian could only punch a free kick to Florin Gardos, but Cheikhou Kouyate managed to keep the visitors on level terms with his goalline clearance.

The Saints threatened again later in the half as Eljero Elia fired a shot in that was inches away from Adrian's goal.

Moments before the break, the hosts could have snatched the lead as Mane latched on to a Graziano Pelle ball, but failed to test the West Ham shot-stopper.
