Toby Alderweireld to return for Burnley trip, Morgan Schneiderlin to miss out

Southampton manager Ronald Koeman reveals that Toby Alderweireld and James Ward-Prowse are back in training, although Morgan Schneiderlin is not quite ready for a return.

Southampton manager Ronald Koeman has revealed that defender Toby Alderweireld is in contention to start this weekend's Premier League meeting with Burnley.

The 25-year-old, who is on loan at the Saints from Atletico Madrid, damaged his hamstring against Arsenal last week and was expected to miss his side's next few games.

However, Koeman has today confirmed that Alderweireld is back in training along with James Ward-Prowse, although another injury victim in Morgan Schneiderlin is unlikely to feature at Turf Moor.

"Midfielder James Ward-Prowse is back in training with the group," the Dutchman told reporters. "He needs more time, but will be in the squad for the next two games.

"Defender Toby Alderweireld is back in training and will be fit for Saturday, while Morgan Schneiderlin has a chance for Tuesday."

Southampton have slipped down to fifth place in the Premier League table following a run of four games without a win.
