Southampton forward Jay Rodriguez targets return this season

Southampton striker Jay Rodriguez wants to play a part for the club this season as he is almost fully recovered from a serious ACL injury.

Southampton forward Jay Rodriguez has reportedly set his sights on returning from a long-term knee injury this season.

The 25-year-old hasn't played in almost 12 months since April 5 last year after rupturing his anterior cruciate ligament against Manchester City.

The recovery period for an ACL problem is usually up to nine months, but Rodriguez's return was delayed because of a further infection.

According to ESPN, Rodriguez is hoping to play a part in Southampton's push for a European place in the final two months of the season.

He is back in training and could soon feature for the Saints' Under-21 side before perhaps returning to the first team.

Last term, Rodriguez netted 15 Premier League goals in 30 starts before his season was ended.
