Kelvin Davis handed backroom role at Southampton

Long-serving Southampton goalkeeper Kelvin Davis is appointed the club's new football development executive.

Long-serving Southampton goalkeeper Kelvin Davis has been appointed as the club's new football development executive.

Davis spent 10 years at St Mary's and was rewarded with a testimonial between the current Southampton team and a selection of the club's former players at the end of last season.

The 39-year-old's contract at the club expired at the end of the 2015-16 campaign, but he has been kept on as part of new manager Claude Puel's backroom staff.

"It is a very interesting role and it's one I'm very excited about. Being at the club for as long as I have and with the experience I've picked up, it's important to pass that on to the younger players as they make their way towards the first team," Davis told the club's official website.

"I am delighted to be staying with the football club and looking forward to playing a big part in helping the club continue its fantastic progression."

As part of his role, Davis will offer support to players in the first team and development squads, as well as acting as a club ambassador.
