Ronald Koeman praises performance of substitute goalkeeper Kelvin Davis

Southampton manager Ronald Koeman praises substitute goalkeeper Kelvin Davis for his performance in the 2-0 defeat of Burnley in the Premier League.

Southampton manager Ronald Koeman praised substitute goalkeeper Kelvin Davis for his dominant performance between the sticks in the 2-0 defeat of Burnley on Saturday afternoon.

First-choice stopper Fraser Forster was stretchered off early in the first half after suffering what appeared to be a knee ligament injury.

In his absence, 38-year-old understudy Davis stepped in to pull off a series of good saves and ultimately keep a clean sheet for the Saints.

Koeman told BBC Sport after the game: "A difficult first half, they had one or two very good chances but Davis was saving them. The second half was very good, we dominated it with good ball possession. A good win today.

"Forster is at hospital and it is looking bad. We have to wait for the scan. I hope it will be okay for him, but the doctor is not positive.

"It is good to have an experienced goalkeeper on the bench and he showed his qualities today."

Southampton sit sixth in the Premier League table following the win.
