Ronald Koeman suggests confidence could be a slight issue for Southampton

Southampton boss Ronald Koeman suggests that a slight loss in confidence could be playing a part in his side's recent dip in Premier League form.

Southampton coach Ronald Koeman has suggested that his side may have lost their confidence at some points in recent weeks, as they suffered a fourth straight Premier League defeat at Burnley on Saturday.

Ashley Barnes grabbed the winner for Sean Dyche's men at Turf Moor, with Southampton's Dutch coach stating that his side's own assurances have been a problem despite some encouraging performances.

"It's all about scoring chances and more mistakes in defence and that's the difference. It's not about organisation or the way of playing – maybe it's a little bit about confidence now after a fourth defeat," said Koeman, according to the The Telegraph.

"I think it was the same story as the last few games. I think we played well, the start of the game was difficult but after 20 minutes we controlled the game.

"We didn't create a lot in the first half but I think from the start of the second half until we missed the penalty we played great football."

Southampton's dip in form now sees them sitting in fifth position in the Premier League table.
