Les Reed: Ronald Koeman talks "going very positively"

Southampton executive director of football Les Reed says that talks with manager Ronald Koeman are "going very positively".

Southampton executive director of football Les Reed has suggested that Ronald Koeman has moved closer to signing a new contract at St Mary's.

Koeman only has one year remaining on his existing deal at the Premier League club and it has previously been reported that he has attracted interest from the likes of Everton and Arsenal.

However, Reed has said that negotiations between Koeman and the club are currently ongoing as they look to secure continuity before they attempt to build on their sixth-place finish in the top flight this season.

Reed told the club's official website: "Conversations go on all the time about planning for the future. Ronald has mentioned recently that he's sat down with us at board level and talked about the five-year plan. There's no point going into contract negotiations about finance and money unless you're all on the same wavelength about where the club is going.

"If Ronald is committing himself to the club for a longer period of time, it's important we talk about our ambitions being aligned and that we are still trying to achieve the same things.

"We're now at a point, as Ronald has said himself, where we're actually getting down to the detail of the contract, which is where agents and lawyers get involved. Everything is going very positively at the moment."

Koeman has won 44 of his 91 games in charge of Southampton since replacing Mauricio Pochettino in June 2014.
