Morgan Schneiderlin: 'Southampton can finish in top four'

Southampton midfielder Morgan Schneiderlin sees no reason why they can't finish inside the top four of the Premier League this season.

Morgan Schneiderlin has said that he sees no reason why Southampton can't "shock" the rest of the Premier League and finish in the top four this season.

The Saints are currently third in the division and beat Manchester United 1-0 on Sunday, and Schneiderlin told BBC Sport that the side can achieve "something special" this term.

"[So far it has been] unexpected," admitted the France international. "After 20 or 21 games, to be third is not a mistake it's because we deserve to be there.

"We want to carry on and make something special for this club. Champions League qualification? Why not, we want to change the traditions and we want to put Southampton into the mix and it will be a shock for the rest of the country.

"We need to be focused in every game. We are Southampton and players like myself were in League One four years ago so we must never forget where we came from."
