Team News: Southampton forced into changes for Newcastle United match

Teenage midfielder Harrison Reed starts for Southampton as injuries force Ronald Koeman into making several changes to his side for their trip to Newcastle United.

Ronald Koeman has been forced into reshuffling his Southampton side for their Premier League trip to St James' Park this evening.

Injured trio Morgan Schneiderlin, Victor Wanyama and Toby Alderweireld are all missing from the team which won 1-0 at Manchester United last weekend.

Florin Gardos and Dusan Tadic both made impacts off the bench at Old Trafford and are rewarded with starts.

Youngster Harrison Reed is preferred to Jack Cork in midfield, while Steven Davis and James Ward-Prowse drop deeper to help fill the void.

Davis, Graziano Pelle and Eljero Elia all return after sitting out the FA Cup third-round replay victory at Ipswich Town on Wednesday

Newcastle caretaker boss John Carver makes just one alteration to the XI which lost valiantly at Chelsea last time out, with left-back Massadio Haidara replacing Mike Williamson and Paul Dummett shifting inside.

Cheick Tiote and Papiss Cisse are away at the Africa Cup of Nations and so Vurnon Anita and Remy Cabella keep their places. Siem de Jong, Ryan Taylor, Steven Taylor and Gabriel Obertan are among those still injured.

Newcastle: Krul; Janmaat, Coloccini, Dummett, Haidara; Sissoko, Anita, Colback; Cabella, Perez, Gouffran
Subs: Woodman, Santon, Williamson, Abeid, Ameobi, Armstrong, Riviere

Southampton: Forster; Clyne, Fonte, Gardos, Bertrand; Reed, S. Davis, Ward-Prowse; Tadic, Elia, Pelle
Subs: K. Davis, Long, Cork, Isgrove, McCarthy, Targett, Hesketh
