Jose Fonte targets place in Portugal squad for World Cup

Jose Fonte is refusing to give up on the possibility of being named in the Portugal squad for this summer's World Cup.

Jose Fonte has claimed that he will not give up on his dream of being named in the Portugal squad to compete at this summer's World Cup.

The Southampton defender has never represented his country at full international level but he believes that his form in the Premier League could see him included in the group that heads to Brazil.

"I have my goals, I have my dreams and obviously I want to be in the World Cup," the 30-year-old told the Southern Daily Echo.

"It hasn't happened yet but I will keep working hard and looking forward to get my name on the list.

"I'm playing in the best league in the world against the best strikers in the world and we're doing well so I don't see why I shouldn't be considered."

Fonte made one appearance for the Under-21 team in 2006.
