Southend United are hoping to extend the loan of Burnley's Luke O'Neill until the end of the season, Shrimpers manager Phil Brown has said.
The 22-year-old moved to Roots Hall earlier this month but hasn't been able to make a proper impact after picking up a thigh injury on his debut against Chesterfield.
Despite that, Brown feels that he can still be useful for the League Two side and is hoping to tie up a longer deal.
"Luke did well in the game he played before getting injured and we're talking to Burnley about trying to keep him with us until the end of the season," the Echo quotes Brown as saying.
O'Neill could return from his time out against Newport County on Friday night.
