The former Liverpool midfielder nearly scored Sporting's third shortly after the restart but Igor Stefanovic made the save.

Sporting won a penalty on the hour mark, but Stefanovic made the save from Islam Slimani's spot kick. The striker was first to the rebound though to extend the lead.

Rafael Martins scored a consolation for Moreirense in the 80th minute from the penalty spot.

The victory gives Sporting a two-point lead at the top of the Primeira Liga table while Moreirense remain in 14th.
