Tottenham Hotspur assistant manager Joe Jordan believes that Jermain Defoe is capable of replacing Aston Villa's Darren Bent in England's squad for Euro 2012.
Both players have scored six goals in the Premier League this season, but only Bent has been selected by manager Fabio Capello in recent months.
Jordan has insisted that there is still time for Defoe to force his way into the reckoning, however.
"I wouldn't say Darren Bent has got to go to the Euros because I think that between now and then you still have to prove that you are a good player. Jermain Defoe can do that," said Jordan.
"He is not starting as many games as he would like. But he is as sharp and strong as I have seen him and he's waiting for his opportunity.
"He showed against Fulham last time out when he had one chance and he took it."
Defoe and Bent could line up against each other tomorrow night when Spurs take on Villa at White Hart Lane.
