Benoit Assou-Ekotto celebrates Tottenham Hotspur "freedom"

Benoit Assou-Ekotto celebrates his "freedom" following his release by Tottenham by channelling Mel Gibson's portrayal of William Wallace on social media.

Benoit Assou-Ekotto has celebrated his "freedom" after his release by Tottenham Hotspur by channelling Mel Gibson's portrayal of William Wallace.

Spurs announced in the final hours of deadline day that the remaining six months of the Cameroonian's £40,000-per-week contract had been cancelled.

The 30-year-old had not played for Tottenham since May 2013 and was not registered in their Premier League squad for this season.

He has shown his relief by posting a picture of Gibson portraying Wallace in 1995 blockbuster Braveheart, captioned with the film's most famous quote, on his official Instagram account.
