David Cameron backs Tottenham Hotspur fans over 'Yid' chant

Prime Minister David Cameron believes that Tottenham Hotspur fans should be able to continue using the word 'Yid'.

Prime Minister David Cameron has claimed that Tottenham Hotspur fans should not be punished for their use of the word 'Yid'.

The Football Association recently said that it would consider banning supporters of the Premier League club who continue to chant the term.

However, Cameron believes that 'Yid' should be used as long as it is not motivated by hate.

"There's a difference between Spurs fans self-describing themselves as Yids and someone calling someone a Yid as an insult," he told the Jewish Chronicle.

"You have to be motivated by hate. Hate speech should be prosecuted – but only when it's motivated by hate."

The FA and Tottenham are yet to comment on Cameron's remarks.
