Jermaine Defoe: 'We need Emmanuel Adebayor'

Jermain Defoe believes that Tottenham cannot afford to lose a player of Emmanuel Adebayor's experience and quality amid speculation linking him with QPR.

Tottenham Hotspur striker Jeramin Defoe believes that the club would be wise to retain the services of Emmanuel Adebayor for the season.

The 29-year-old has been training with the reserves since returning from compassionate leave following the death of his brother in Togo.

Queens Park Rangers manager Harry Redknapp was reportedly toying with the idea of signing his former recruit on loan for the remainder of the season, but Defoe thinks that the well-travelled striker has much to offer the Spurs cause.

He told Sky Sports News: "Someone like Mani [Emmanuel], he is a great player and has played for some top clubs in the world and we're going to need him. We will need his goals and everything else he brings to the team.

"He is keeping himself fit. He is a happy guy who loves football and hopefully he will be back with the team soon."

Spurs, who sit third in the Premier League behind Arsenal and Liverpool, travel to newly-promoted Cardiff City on Sunday.
