Jermain Defoe: Success depends on January run

Jermain Defoe says that Tottenham's four home games in January will determine whether they are genuine title contenders.

Jermain Defoe has said that Tottenham Hotspur's four Premier League home games in January will determine whether they are genuine title contenders.

West Bromwich Albion visit White Hart Lane tonight, followed by Everton, Wolves and Wigan in the coming weeks.

"January is a big month for us. We have got a lot of home games and that makes a massive difference," Defoe said.

"At home we create a lot of chances. We will be on the front foot. I think this next month will show how far we can go this season, especially with the other teams slipping us as well.

"The Premier League is such a good league that anyone can beat anyone. All the results this weekend have proved it - who would have thought Blackburn would have won at Old Trafford. The next month will really determine how far we have come."

Spurs are currently third in the Premier League with 39 points from 18 games.
